James Valentine Pressley was born in 1855 in Haywood County, North Carolina.  He was the eldest son of William David Pressley, Jr. and his wife, Eliza Emeline Henson.

James Valentine Pressley married Cordelia "Delia" Warren on February 1, 1881 in Haywood County, North Carolina. Her parents were Uriah Warren and his second wife, Rebecca Sharp.

James and Delia Pressley spent their lives in Western North Carolina.  They raised a family of six children in Haywood County.  Those children were: 

Leila Palestine Pressley, b.1881, married Allie Hightower

Rose Mandevine Pressley,  b.1883, married Robert Mease.

Nettie Elveter Pressley, b. 1885, married Joseph Walter Williams

William Wesley Pressley, b. 1888,  married Mary Warren

David Harrison Pressley, b. 1891, married Nancy Marinda "Nannie" Warren

Sally Edna Pressley,b. 1894, married Horace Creasman

James Valentine Pressley died in 1911, and is buried next to Delia Warren Pressley, who died in 1936.  They rest at Long's United Methodist Church Cemetery in Haywood County, North Carolina.
