THE STATE OF ALABAMA, BUTLER COUNTY
I, Allen Preslar of the County of Butler and State of Alabama for and in consideration of the love that I have for my son, John Preslar, and for the further consideration of one dollar to me in hand paid, I hereby give and bequeath to my son John Preslar for his use during his natural life the following negroes to wit: July Ann and Joe valued at fifteen hundred and fifty dollars to his use and during his life and after his decease to be equally divided between his heirs of his body that is to say he is to have the use profits and increase of said negroes to his own free use during his life. But the said negroes be in no wise liable to be traded or sold by him or liable to be payment of any of his debts. But the profits that shall hereafter be gained shall be free to his own disposal and liable to the payment of any lawfull debt that may be made by him.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal this the 24th day of May 1864.
