Know all men by these presents that I William PURSELLEY of Edgefield county in the State aforesaid for the within consideration of Seventy five pounds Sterling Money to me paid by Luke GARDNER of Edgefield County in the State Aforesaid have Granted Bargained Sold and Released and by these presents do Grant Bargain Sell and Release unto the sd Luke GARDNER all that Plantation or tract of Land containing forty five acres beginning on a Small White oak on a Small Branch of Dry Creek and thence Running South to a pine Bounded by George Homes Land thence Turning east to a pine Bounded by David Be***ds Land thence North to a Small Hicory Bounded by John PURSSELLY’S Land thence west to a red oak Bounded by Henry ELLENBERGERS Land thence South West to the beginning White oak E***r bounded by Henry ELLENBERGERS Land ~ Together with all and Singular the Rights Members Hereditaments and Appurtenances to the Sd Premises belonging or in any wise incident or Appertaining To have and To hold all and Singular the premises before mentioned unto the Said Luke GARDNER his heirs and Assigns forever and I do hereby bind myself my heirs Executors and Administrators to Warrant and forever Defend all and Singular the Said premises unto the said Luke GARDNER his heirs and assigns Against myself and my Heirs and Against every other person Whomsoever Lawfully Claiming or To Claim the Same or any part thereof Witness my hand and Seal this twenty eigth day of September in the Year of our Lord one thousand Seven hundred and Ninety Six and the twenty Second year of the Independency of the United States of America. I Joseph HIGHTOWER one of the Judges of the County of Edgefield county do hereby Certify unto all whom it may concern that Mary PURSLEY wife of the Within Named William PURSLEY came before me and upon being privately and separately examined by me did declare that She does freely Voluntarily and Without any compulsion dread or fear of any person or persons Whomsoever Renounce release and forever Relinquish unto the within named Luke GARDNER his heirs & Assigns all her rights Claim of Dower of *** all & Singular premises within mentioned and Released. Given under my hand and Seal this 10th day of October Anno Domini 1796
