NAME ORIGIN
Presley-Pressley Name Origin
There seem to be two prevailing ideas about
where the names Presley or Pressley come from. The most prominent
is that they are derived from the English name
PRIESTLEY.
The suffix "ley" (or lea) means "meadow". Simply, the name translates to "Meadow of the Priests." Another source states that the name PRESSLEY derives from the Welsh "Prys" which means shrubs or brushwood, and "lle" which means meadow or pasture land.
The Gaelic equivalent is PREASLLE, derived from essentially the same two words. The end result is "a wooded meadow" or coppice.
