NANCY'S MUSIC
THE MAGIC OF MUSIC
This page is about the music my
husband and I are currently listening to.
I tried to major in music my first couple of years in college, but "they" wanted
me to perform and I didn't want to perform. I just wanted to learn
everything I could about the magic of music.
I thought I could learn what made music so powerful a force.
That was the academic arrogance of a teenager.
I don't try to understand it now; I just close my eyes and stop thinking.
My husband is a huge fan of the Blues and any excellent guitarist. I appreciate
just about any kind of music but I'm partial to folk music, 60's 'Rock and
Roll', classical piano and sacred music played on a pipe organ. Something in my
soul is sensitive to percussion instruments. We have a good friend who
will listen to anything once, all the way through, and he introduces us to a lot
of great music we would not otherwise explore. (Thanks, Alan!)
Music is such a subjective and emotional medium. I just want to share with you
what I enjoy. If you've found a piece of music that can just rearrange
your priorities in a heartbeat,
please share it with me.
Norah Jones
CD: Come Away With Me
This CD is from a 22 year old New Yorker who must have spent hours listening
to Nina Simone.
Norah Jones has a beautiful throaty voice and a style that is just entrancing.
Its sound is a little from a smokey jazz club and a little from a piano bar on a
quiet night. I've been listening to this CD every day for a couple of weeks now
and it still just takes my breath away in places. This is mellow music,
wonderfully soothing with just perfect vocal harmonies.
