Funeral services were conducted Sunday at 1:30 p. m. at the Talley chapel for Columbus Washington Presley, 82, a farmer and prominent landowner in the Dorchester community for years. Mr. Presley died Saturday at 2:25 p. m. at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Ida Caudle at Dorchester, where he had lived 17 years.
The Rev. David Griffin officiated. Burial was in West Hill Cemetery.
Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Caudle, and Mrs. Edna Leondis of Dorchester, and Mrs. Lewis Ford of Sherman route 2; three sons, J. W. and C. T. Presley of Lubbock, and S. D. Presley of Canyon; two sisters, Mrs. Sallie Greene of Rome, Ga., and Mrs. B. C. Smith of Sherman route 3; three brothers, J. R. Presley of Dorchester, J. W. Presley of Luella and D. O. Presley of Dorchester; 15 great grandchildren and seven great, great grandchildren.
Mr. Presley was born April 24, 1859, in Fairmount, Ga., a son of W. J. and Francis Riddle Presley. He came to Texas and Grayson county 48 years ago from his native state, residing since then in the Dorchester community.
He married Miss Mattie McCarson in 1881 in Georgia. She died in 1924. Mr. Presley had been a member of the Methodist church for 50 years.
