SWANNANOA - Lawrence Hubert Pressley, 83, of 262 Lytle Cove Road, went to be with the Lord on Monday, April 1, 2002.

A native of Buncombe County, he was a son of the late Zeb Vance and Carrie Buchanan Pressley. He was a charter member of Grove Stone Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon. He worked at Morgan Manufacturing Co. and Drexel Manufacturing Co. for 42 years, retiring in 1975.

He was preceded in death by a son, Lawrence Eugene Pressley; a daughter, Revonda Pressley Brockmeier; two brothers, Zeb and Alvin Pressley; and five sisters, Lillian Pressley, Sally Campbell, Bessie  Huffman, Vella Kilpatrick and Ruby Gragg. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Ida Chandler Pressley; six daughters, Joyce Lamb and her husband, the Rev. James Lamb, June Pressley, Patsy Jackson, Barbara Wright and her husband, Bill, all of Swannanoa, Alice Stewart and her husband, George, of Lyles, Tenn., and Janice Wilson and her husband, Bruce, of Marshall; brother, Eugene Pressley and his wife, Sherry, of Black Mountain; and sister, Della Vess of Swannanoa. He had 16 loving grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren and lots of loving nieces and nephews.

His family and friends were the pride and joy of his life. He was a blessing to all. The funeral services will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Grove Stone Baptist Church. The Revs. James Lamb and Gayle Brown will officiate. The graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Black Mountain City Cemetery. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
