David Presley was born about 1845 in Lincoln County, Missouri, the son of William Presley and Mourning Gilliland Presley who were married March 23, 1843 in Troy, Lincoln County, Missouri.  David Presley was the second of their three children.  His older brother, Jacob C. Presley, was born  31 October 1844 and his younger sister, Mary E. Presley, was born 1849 in Lincoln County, Missouri.

David Presley's wife, Martha Jane "Mattie" Boland, was the daughter of David Boland and Mary C. Jones.  She was born in 1842 in Muscogee County, Georgia where she married David Presley between 1873 and 1880.  At the time of her marriage to David Presley, she was the widow of William Bennett by whom she had three daughters and a son born between 1866 and 1873. 

David Presley also had a previous marriage.  His spouse is unknown. His household on the 1880 Robertson County, Texas census lists the Bennett step children who are nearly the same ages as several of the Presley children in the household (David Presley's children.)

David and Mattie Boland Presley had two children.  Benjamin G. Presley was born August 6, 1880 in Wooten Wells, Robertson County, Texas, and his sister "Kitty" was born November 1882.  Benjamin G. Presley is the maternal grandfather of Charlie Lewellen, the submitter of this photograph. Benjamin Presley married Francis Willie Rumfield and they raised their family in Bell County, Texas.

David Presley's father, William Presley, was born about 1815 in Lincoln County, Missouri, and died 4 November 1850 in Troy, Lincoln County, Missouri.  He was the son of David Presley of Kershaw County, South Carolina, and his wife Mary Tucker.
