Joseph Lawrence Presley was born 3 September 1905 in Skygusty, McDowell County, West Virginia.  He was the son of William Floyd Presley, born 28 June 1858, and his second wife, Josephine Gillespie, born 29 Mar 1869.  The parents were also natives of McDowell County.

William Floyd Presley was the son of Joshua Presley, born 1829, Russell County, Virginia, and Emerilla Dillon. William's first wife was Nancy E. Harman. He died on 31 March 1935.  You can view his death certificate here.

Joseph Lawrence Presley, son of William Presley, married Elsie McPherson on 6 August 1928 in Mercer County, West Virginia.  They are the in-laws of Sandy Presley, the submitter of this photograph.

Joseph L. Presley died on 8 November 1951 and is buried at Roderfield Cemetery in McDowell County, West Virginia. Click here to see his head stone. Elsie McPherson Presley is buried at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens in Roanoke County, Virginia. Click here to see her headstone.

This branch of the Presley family is one of the early Presley families in this country.  The patriarch, William Presley, came to Russell County, Virginia in the late 1700s from England.
