James
Lafayette Pressley and Martha Traynham, married about 1900, were photographed
about 1904 with their two eldest children, Ralph L. Pressley, born 31
August 1900, and Nancy L. Pressley born January 18, 1902 in Greenville County,
South Carolina. The couple had two later children: John Berry Pressley,
born 9 Jul 1905 and James T. Pressley, born 4 April 1909. The couple's
third child, John Berry Pressley, is the grandfather of
Jerry Pressley, the submitter
of this photograph. This couple raised their family in the Princeton area of
Greenville County, South Carolina. Their descendants are found in and around
Anderson and Greenville Counties.James Lafayette Pressley was born 27 October 1878 in Princeton, Greenville County, SC, the son of Berry Holland Pressley of Pickens County, South Carolina and his wife, Susan Lucinda King. James Lafayette was the second child of Berry and Susan King Pressley. He had an older brother, Joseph Benjamin Pressley, born 25 September 1876, and five younger siblings:
