Green Ray Starnes and Ruth Elizabeth Presley were married 28 November 1884 in Mecklenburg County, North Caroline.  He was 20 years old, the son of Joseph Lee Starnes and Elizabeth Carrie of Mecklenburg County. She was 18, the daughter of William Ervin Presley and Lydia Adaline Price.

This union produced eleven children, eight of which lived to adulthood.  Their children: Lester, Clara, Joe, Bertha, Eula, Frank, Ruth, Woodrow and Calvin. Green Starnes was a blacksmith and was employed by Mecklenburg County in a several different capacities.  Ruth Presley Starnes was a homemaker for her husband and children.

The photo below was taken before death separated them in 1938.

Ruth Presley Starnes died 15 December 1938 and Green Ray Starnes died 20 February 1954.  They are buried together at Back Creek Presbyterian Church in Harrisburg, Cabarrus County, North Carolina.
